The first TTR LP (‘Wrapping Yourself In Silver Foil Won’t Save You From The Blast’), is great, and I’m not about to start picking faults with it. But, it was the sound of re-discovering what it was that made them want to make music (or a noise depending on who’s side you’re on) in the first place.
Finding their feet, and working out exactly where they wanted to be.
The new, second TTR LP (Everybody Knows What You Don’t Know) is the sound of a group who know exactly where they are. Know exactly what they want to do. But are still working out how to actually do it! (Modern technology! Pah!)
Not fitting in!
Playing their songs with heart and soul, with fire and passion.
Being older doesn’t mean being over.
Influences are all over the place, so if you think you’re clever to spot them, you’re really not. No one’s hiding anything.
In fact when you say you can hear The Electric Prunes & The Barracudas nodding their approval, The Creation and The Milkshakes singing along and Townsend smashing his Rickenbacker in the background, it just makes The Total Rejection smile.
Garage-Psych-Punk (or Rock, if the word ‘rock’ doesn’t freak you out) is where it’s at.
And yet, still refusing to play the game properly. (Who makes the rules anyway?)
No dressing up!
No pretending it’s 1966.
This is the sound of NOW! This is the sound of laughter! The sound of memories!
The sound of anger at everything good, being pulled apart by idiots.
So we swing from naughty schoolboy memories of ‘Maureen’ to screaming at Toff-Tories to take ‘A Step Outside’.
Slipping out of our trees and being all ‘Shook Up’, to the drunken one nighters that still cause embarrassment ; ‘Chilly Chilly’
The Total Rejection have already had the thumbs up from several of their ‘heroes’ (an Undertone, A Barracuda, A Prisoner) This makes them smile too.
A lot of things make The Total Rejection smile.
Playing to people who want it.
To people who get it.
Hearing themselves on the radio.
Selling more copies of their first LP than everyone told them was possible.
Proving people wrong.
Yeah, these are a few of their favourite things.
The Total Rejection are smiling because they know ‘Everybody Knows What You Don’t Know’.
